U.S. stocks were mixed Monday at midday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S & P 500 lost a tenth-of one percent or less, while the NASDAQ posted a slight gain.
European share prices are slightly lower at their close. London's Financial Times index was down two points to finish at 5,042.
The Paris CAC-40 dropped five points to end at 4,012, and the DAX index in Frankfurt lost one point to hit 4,386.
Earlier, Tokyo's Nikkei index gained 79 points to end at 11,632. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index closed 172 points (more than 1% higher at 14,017).
The price of gold is up more than four dollars, trading at 425 dollars, 21 cents an ounce in New York. The dollar in New York is lower against the yen and the euro.
