Hong Kong's Hang Seng index lost 15 points to end at 13,894. The Hong Kong markets were closed Monday. They closed virtually unchanged on Friday.
In the region's other big market, Singapore, the Straits Times index gained 12 points to close at 2,137.
Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Bangkok, Bombay, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila and Taiwan.
Markets were lower in Seoul, Shanghai, Sydney and Wellington In Hong Kong, the price of gold fell $4.20 to close at 429 dollars, five cents an ounce.
