British Police Arrest Suspected London Subway Bomber

  • VOA News

British police have arrested one of four men who allegedly tried to bomb the London subway and a bus last week.

The head of the London police anti-terrorism unit Peter Clarke says Yasin Hassan Omar was arrested early Wednesday in Birmingham.

Police say they were forced to use a stun gun on Mr. Omar when he resisted arrest. He was taken to London for questioning.

Mr. Omar, a Somali who has been living in Britain since 1992, is accused of fleeing from London's Warren Street station on July 21st after a hidden bomb failed to explode there.

Police are searching for three other suspects in the failed attack. They have identified one of them as Muktar Said Ibrahim.

They have also released a new security camera picture of one of the unidentified suspects. The new photo shows him on a bus wearing a white vest.

A previous photo taken a few minutes earlier at a subway station shows him with a dark blue shirt.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen or picked up the apparently abandoned shirt to contact them.
