Chinese Company to Build Dam in Burma

  • VOA News

A Chinese company has signed a 46 million-dollar contract with Burma to build a hydroelectric dam on the Myitnge River, about 50 kilometers southeast of Mandalay.

Chinese state media said Monday that Gezhouba Water and Power Company signed the deal with the Burmese military government's Department of Hydroelectric Power.

Other Chinese companies have signed three other contracts for the project, known as the Yeywa hydropower project. Once completed, the project is expected to supply about 3.55 billion kilowatt hours of power a year.
