Thailand's foreign minister, Kantathi Suphamongkhon, says he will visit Burma later this month for talks with the country's military leaders. Mr. Kantathi said today-Thursday he will make the two-day trip, beginning August 31, because Burma is the only member of the 10-member Association of South East Asian Nations he has not visited.
The Thai foreign minister gave no further details of his visit, but a foreign ministry spokesman said Burma's domestic politics will be discussed.
In July, Burma yielded to international pressure and gave up its turn to lead the ASEAN regional bloc.
Thailand describes its policy toward Burma as one of "constructive engagement."
