Thousands of Police Patrol London Four Weeks After Deadly July 7th Attacks

Security is visibly heightened in London Thursday -- two weeks after a failed attempt to bomb the city's transit system and one month after four suicide bombers killed 52 people on a bus and three subway trains.

6,000 police are patrolling the city, some with automatic weapons and bomb-sniffing dogs. Transit officials also re-opened the busy Piccadilly railway line hit in the July seventh bombings and offered a moment of silence to the victims.

Earlier, a London court ordered the first suspect formally charged in connection with the failed July 21st bombings to remain in custody until his next hearing, set for August 11th.

The suspect, 23-year-old Ismael Abdurahman, is accused of withholding information that may have helped find a suspected attacker in the July 21st failed bombings.

In Italy today, a court scheduled an August 17th extradition hearing for Hamdi Issac, also known as Osman Hussain. He is a suspect in the July 21st failed bombings.

Information for this report is provided by AP, AFP and Reuters.
