ILO Concerned About Situation in Burma

The International Labor Organization says it is concerned by the worsening of human rights conditions in Burma.

The ILO's governing body, meeting in Geneva on Thursday called on Burma's government to stop prosecuting victims of forced labor or their representatives and instead take action against the perpetrators.

The United Nations labor organization also condemned the series of death threats received by the ILO liaison officer in Burma, as well as a public campaign by Burmese authorities against the ILO which has prevented the group from carrying out its mission.

The ILO urged Burmese leaders to resume cooperation with the agency to eradicate forced labor.
