Europeans To Call For Emergency IAEA Meeting on Iran

Britain's Foreign Office says France, Germany and Britain plan to call for an emergency board meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency on February second to discuss possible actions against Iran.

The Foreign Office said that after envoys from Europe, the United States, China and Russia met in London Monday to discuss Iran's nuclear program, they all showed serious concern about Tehran's moves to restart its uranium enrichment activities.

The envoys agreed that Iran should again fully suspend its enrichment programs. But in Moscow, President Vladimir Putin urged diplomats to move cautiously, saying Tehran has not ruled out a possible Russian compromise proposal to enrich uranium for Iran on Russian territory.

Iran's ambassador to Russia Monday praised the proposal, calling it "constructive." He said Iranian officials are studying the offer.
