Singapore's foreign minister says the Association of Southeast Asian Nations will have to make some hard decisions about Burma when the group meets in Bali in April.
In an address to Singapore's parliament Thursday, Foreign Minister George Yeo said developments in Burma are a cause for concern.
He said it has become more and more difficult for ASEAN to defend Burma at the U.N. and other international forums because of the ruling junta's secrecy over internal developments.
He said if Burma needs some time to attend to domestic affairs, ASEAN should respect it, but at the same time, the rest of the grouping should not be held back.
Yeo said he thought ASEAN should distance itself from Burma but still leave a gate open for engagement.
