Bangladesh's foreign secretary says Burma has offered assurances it will not encroach on Bangladeshi territorial waters.
Just back from Rangoon, Foreign Secretary Hemayetuddin said the Burmese government does not believe it has made any ventures into Bangladesh waters, and also pledged not to do so in the future.
Hemayetuddin said talks with Burma's Deputy Foreign Minister Kyaw Thu and other officials last week were constructive.
Dhaka earlier had lodged protests with Burma and India against any surveying of oil and gas reserves within Bangladesh's maritime boundary in the Bay of Bengal.
