Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert meets with U.S. President George Bush at the White House today with Iran's controversial nuclear program high on the agenda.
Mr. Olmert discussed the issue with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice over dinner late Sunday.
The United States and Israel suspect Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons -- a charge Iran denies.
In an interview today on U.S. television (NBC), Mr. Olmert said he is not looking for a war with Iran and would accept a compromise that prevents Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He said any such compromise acceptable to Mr. Bush would be acceptable to him -- as long as Iran does not develop a nuclear weapons capability.
Mr. Olmert and Mr. Bush also are expected to discuss ways of reviving the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
