Burmese Monks and Immigrants Lead Protests in Malaysia

Burmese monks and immigrants have staged demonstrations in Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur against Burma's military government.

More than 100 people gathered in the pouring rain outside the Burmese embassy today - Friday to denounce the government that last month led a crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrators that left at least 10 people dead.

The group went to the Japanese embassy in Kuala Lumpur, to pay tribute to Japanese journalist Kenji Nagai, who was shot and killed while filming the protests in Rangoon.

They also protested outside the Chinese embassy, demanding Beijing cease its support of Burma's military government.

On Thursday, the U.S. State Department criticized the Burmese government for failing to release political prisoners, or open a dialogue with its political opponents.

Burmese state media claim the government is still holding nearly 380 people arrested in the crackdown.
