Thai police released 31 illegal Burmese nationals after their arrest early Tuesday in a village along the Thai-Burmese border. Human rights workers say the roundup was a crackdown on Burmese pro-democracy activists.
The Associated Press quoted police Captain Anand Kitikunlasana as saying police raided three houses in Sangklaburi district.
At least 11 of those arrested are members of activist groups, including the Democratic Party for New Society and the All Burma Students' Democratic Front.
