Q: What is the Lumbini Sacred Park Restoration Project in Nepal that is sponsored by the late U Thant, former United Nations Secretary General? And what is U Thant’s vision for Buddhists all over the world? (Burmese traditional doctor U Thein Tun, Lashio)

Dear U Thein Lwin,

When interviewed with U Thant’s daughter Daw Aye Aye Thant she said based on her father's book “View from the UN" U Thant visited Lumbini in April, 1967. During his visit, he noticed the lack of a proper road for pilgrims to visit Lumbini.

Soon after he returned to UN headquarters in New York, he initiated and consulted with UNDP & UNESCO for the Lumbini Restoration project, valued at US $6 million. U Thant promoted religious tolerance, peace and love, applying the basic practices of Buddhism to seek world peace.

Q: What is the U.S. Armed Services Act? Please tell me about the establishment and history of the U.S. Armed Forces. (Sergeant Clark Aung Win Htun, Myitkyeenar)

Dear Sergeant Aung Win Htun,

Each of the U.S. states had militias to defend their respective jurisdiction before independence was won from Britain. The U.S. Military was systematically organized during President George Washington's administration.

Both the Senate and House have Armed Services Committees to oversee accordingly the Military Acts. The Acts must be approved and signed by the President. The Army, Navy, Air Force and 15 other Defense Agencies are under the U.S. Department of Defense.

Q: Concerning market research, what is the importance of the four "Ps"? (Ei Ei Win, Penang, Malaysia)

Hi Ma Ei Ei Win,

Product, Place, Promotion and Price are vital for market research, but the four "Ps" need a democratic environment and to be balanced between demand and supply. However, too much red tape and bureaucracy imposing strict rules and regulations on market research can cause economic turmoil.

That's all for tonight. See you again next week.
