Burmese Politicians Voice Their Views On War In Iraq - 2003-04-01

Our stringer in Thailand, filed a report on the reaction of Burmese politicians on the war against Iraq. In her interviews, U Khun Tun Oo of Shan National League for Democracy of Rangoon said he supports the U.S action.

Phado Mahn Shah of Karen National Union in Mae Sot, Thailand, and U Bo Thaung of the National League for Democracy (Liberated Area) in Mae Sot, Thailand, also expressed their support although all three of them feel that attacking Iraq without the proper U.N. resolution was the only visible weakness in this worthy cause of disarming Iraq of weapons of mass destruction and getting rid of a ruthless dictatorship.

However, Ko Kyaw Thura of the Thailand-based All Burma Students Union said he does not support this war because he feels that it would be better for the international community to support the Iraqi people by other means in their aspiration for democracy and human rights in Iraq.
