Burmese Military Junta Accuses KNU And SURA Of Carrying Out Terrorist Acts - 2003-05-12

Burma's military government held a news conference Sunday to detail alleged terrorist acts by Karen National Union rebels and the Shan United Revolutionary Army (SURA) opium trafficking insurgents.

Officials recounted more than a dozen alleged terrorist acts carried out this year, including executions of villagers, looting, arson, theft, mining villages and firing at passenger vehicles.

In reply to questions about rumors of a salary increase for government employees and the issuing of new 5,000 kyat banknotes, Major General Kyaw Win, Vice Chief of the Office of Military Intelligence, replied that the rumors were totally untrue.
