Distribution Of UN Human Rights Leaflets In Burma - 2004-06-20

Two weeks ago Burmese military authorities arrested nine democracy activists for distributing United Nation's Universal Declaration of Human Rights doucments but relented and released all the youths last.

The new tactic caught the government by surprise because the authorities could not claim as they did previously that "destructionist elements" were distributing anti-government leaflets. "The government is facing a new problem," said Dr.Sein Myint, policy affairs director of Justice and Human Rights in Burma.

San Myint of Burma Point Office - New York-based democracy advocacy group of New York - hailed the youths for devising the new game that will cause the generals scratching their heads.
