European Trio Continue Nuclear Talks with Iran - 2004-07-30

Officials from France, Britain and Germany are continuing talks today (Friday) in Paris with Iranian government representatives on Tehran's nuclear program.

A French foreign ministry spokesman (Herve Ladsous) said each side has set out its position, and work is continuing to resolve outstanding issues.

Thursday, diplomats close to the talks said the Europeans are upset with Tehran for ignoring an agreement last year to suspend uranium enrichment.

Others say Iran is angry over the three European nations' support last month of an International Atomic Energy Agency resolution that strongly criticized Iran's lack of cooperation.

The United States has accused Iran of secretly trying to make nuclear weapons, and has been seeking to take the matter before the U.N. Security Council.
