An international media rights group has condemned the arrest of a Burmese filmmaker and demanded his release.
Reporters Without Borders said Lazing La Htoi was arrested last week in the northern state of Kichin. The group said he was arrested for making a film about recent flooding that disputed Burmese government claims that the natural disaster caused no deaths or damage.
Reporters Without Borders called Lazing La Htoi's arrest a new attempt by Burma's military government to suppress the news. It called on the head of Burma's military government, General Than Shwe, to release the filmmaker immediately.
