A rights group has criticized Burma's military government for arresting a political activist who conducted a rare public protest in Rangoon.
Ohn Than carried a large cardboard sign and marched outside a local United Nations Development Program office Tuesday, calling for democratic reforms. After demonstrating for more than one hour, he was taken away by police.
The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners in Burma says Ohn Than is among several Burmese arrested and jailed for their peaceful protests.
The Thailand-based group said the arrests show Burma's military government remains unable to recognize democracy.
