The release of a new video of a British engineer held hostage by militants in Iraq has raised hopes that he is still alive.
The Arab language television station al-Jazeera broadcast the video Wednesday, showing Kenneth Bigley huddled in a cage and wearing an orange jumpsuit. It was not clear when the tape was made.
Mr. Bigley appealed to the British government to save his life. British Prime Minister Tony Blair says his government would respond if the kidnappers made contact. Mr. Blair says he has no way to get in touch with the militants, believed to be part of a group led by wanted terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
Mr. Bigley's brother, Paul, said the video was heart-wrenching, but that he was happy to see his brother alive on the tape.
