Asian stock markets closed mostly lower Monday, but the key market in Tokyo was up on the strength of the dollar.
Tokyo's Nikkei index gained 31 points to finish at 11,792. The average gained 15 points on Friday.
The Hong Kong, Sydney and Wellington markets were closed Monday for the Easter holiday.
In the region's other big market, Singapore, the Straits Times index closed down seven points to close at 2,144.36.
Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Bombay, Kuala Lumpur and Seoul. Markets were lower in Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila, Shanghai and Taipei.
In late-afternoon Tokyo currency trading, the dollar was selling at 106.94 yen, up 0.56 yen from the same time Friday.
