U.S. stock prices moved up early Thursday after investors were encouraged by a report showing growing productivity in the U.S. workforce.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 33 points to hit 10,845. The S & P 500 was up three points at 1,213, while the NASDAQ gained five points to reach 2,072.
European share prices are mixed in midday trading. London's Financial Times index and the CAC-40 in Paris gained one-tenth of a percent or more, while the DAX index in Frankfurt posted a slight loss.
Earlier in Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index gained 43 points to finish at 11,856. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose 42 points to end at 13,892
The price of gold dropped more than two dollars, trading at 430 dollars and 90 cents an ounce in New York.
The dollar is up against the yen and the euro.
