Asian stock markets closed mixed Monday.
Tokyo's Nikkei index slipped slightly (nine points), to close at 11,651. The Nikkei gained a fraction of 1% on Friday.
Hong Kong's key index, the Hang Seng, gained a fraction of 1% (24 points), to finish at 14,112.
Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Seoul, Taipei, Jakarta, Wellington and Sydney.
Stocks closed lower in Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Bombay.
The U.S. dollar was quoted at 105.68 yen in Tokyo, up 0.42 yen from late Friday in Tokyo, but below its late Friday New York level of 105.72 yen.
The price of gold in Hong Kong rose 40 cents to close at 427 dollars and 45 cents an ounce.
