Asian stock markets closed mostly lower Tuesday.
Tokyo's Nikkei index lost 53 points to finish at 11,598. The average lost 9 points Monday.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index dropped 21 points to end at 14,091. The Hang Seng gained 24 points on Monday. I
n the region's other big market, Singapore, the Straits Times index dropped 20 points to close at 2,147.
Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Bangkok, Bombay, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur.
Markets were lower in Manila, Seoul, Sydney, Taipei and Wellington.
In late afternoon Tokyo currency trading, the dollar was selling at 104.54 yen, down 1.14 yen from the same time Monday.
In Hong Kong, the price of gold rose three dollars 30 cents an ounce to close at 430 dollars 75 cents.
