Malaysian police have detained at least 18 Burmese refugees who demonstrated in Kuala Lumpur.
Members of the Rohingya ethnic group staged a protest Monday in front of the offices of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, demanding speedy resettlement to a third country.
At least 10,000 Rohingyas have been living in Malaysia since the 1990s. Malaysian immigration officials announced last year the Rohingyas would be given temporary residency permits to help them find work.
