A U.S.-based Burmese rights group says it welcomes the decision by luxury jeweler Tiffany's to boycott gems produced in Burma.
The U.S. Campaign for Burma says Tiffany's has pledged not to sell rubies, jadeite, spinel and other gems mined in Burma.
In a statement informing the group of Tiffany's decision, company chairman Michael Kowalski said they support democratic reforms and an end to human rights abuses in Burma.
The export of jewels is a major money maker for Burma's military government.
