Pope John Paul has returned to the Vatican after being treated at a hospital for breathing problems.
The pope was driven to the Vatican Sunday evening along a route lined with well-wishers who waved and cheered at his motorcade.
Earlier today (Sunday) the pope spoke briefly from his hospital room window to pilgrims gathered below. It was his first public address since throat surgery last month.
In a hoarse voice, the pontiff thanked them for visiting and wished them a good Sunday.
On February 24, doctors inserted a tube to ease his breathing, which had become labored due to the flu and Parkinson's disease. The Vatican says the pope is well enough to continue his recovery at home.
