U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is in Pakistan for talks with President Pervez Musharraf and senior officials. Ms. Rice arrived late Wednesday from New Delhi -- the first stop on her six-nation tour of Asia -- where she discussed regional security issues with Indian leaders.
At a joint news conference with her Indian counterpart Natwar Singh, Ms. Rice said there are no immediate plans to sell American made F-16 fighter jets to either Pakistan or India.
Pakistan has said it needs the F-16s to help fight terrorism, but New Delhi says the jets could be used against India.
Ms. Rice also praised India and Pakistan for the progress they have made in peace talks, and she reiterated U.S. opposition to a proposed gas pipeline running from Iran to India, via Pakistan.
