Authorities in the U.S. state of Minnesota say a high school student has shot dead nine people and then killed himself during a shooting rampage.
FBI officials said Monday the student first killed his grandparents at their home and then went to his school on an Indian reservation in the town of Red Lake.
Officials say he shot and killed a school security guard, a teacher, and several students and that he was found dead inside the building after exchanging gunfire with authorities.
Witnesses say the shooter waved his gun and grinned as he began his rampage. Officials do not have a motive.
It was the deadliest school shooting since the 1999 Columbine High School massacre in Colorado which left 14 students dead. Red Lake High School has more than 300 students, all of them American Indians.
