Asian stock markets closed mostly lower today (Tuesday).
Tokyo's Nikkei index lost 38 points to finish at 11,842. The index gained 104 points Friday. Financial markets in Japan were closed Monday for a holiday.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index lost 58 points to end at 13,776. The Hang Seng climbed six points on Monday.
In the region's other big market, Singapore, the Straits Times index lost one point to close at 2,176.
Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Jakarta and Seoul. Markets were lower in Bangkok, Bombay, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Shanghai, Sydney, Taipei and Wellington.
In late afternoon Tokyo currency trading, the dollar was selling at 104.93 yen, up 0.11 yen from the same time Friday.
In Hong Kong, the price of gold fell four dollars, 80 cents to close at 430 dollars and 95 cents an ounce.
