Singapore has prodded Burma to either push ahead with promised political reforms or give up its turn as chairman of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Singapore's visiting Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong delivered the message in a meeting Wednesday with Burmese leader General Than Shwe and Prime Minister Soe Win.
Mr. Lee repeated that ASEAN countries do not interfere in other members' internal affairs, but he underlined that members must be responsible for the consequences of their actions on other ASEAN member nations.
Washington has said it may boycott ASEAN meetings in Rangoon unless Burma adopts political reforms and releases pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
