Australian officials say a navy helicopter carrying up to 11 people has crashed on the earthquake-devastated Indonesian island of Nias. The Sea King helicopter crashed Saturday near the town of Gunung Sitoli. There is no initial word on casualties.
Also today, rescue workers pulled a survivor out of rubble left by Monday's huge earthquake off the coast of Sumatra.
A crew of rescuers from Singapore and Mexico dug for seven hours to free the man from his collapsed three-story house on Nias.
The man named Hendra was found after he was heard calling for help and water. The extent of his injuries is unknown.
He was discovered after the search for earthquake survivors had already been halted. Indonesian authorities said they did not expect to find anyone alive more than four days after the devastating jolt.
