Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon meets Monday with President Bush for talks on Israel's planned withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and the overall Middle East peace process.
Mr. Sharon is hoping to receive a strong endorsement for the Gaza plan when he meets Mr. Bush at his Texas ranch. Mr. Sharon says he will also raise the issue of recent Palestinian rocket attacks on Jewish settlements.
Other topics are expected to include Israel's plan to build 3,500 new homes in the Maale Adumim settlement near Jerusalem.
U.S. officials say that plan is at odds with the U.S.-backed road map peace plan.
Meanwhile, Israeli police in Jerusalem stopped 200 ultranationalist Jewish protesters from occupying a sacred site known to Muslims as the Nobel Sanctuary and to Jews as the Temple Mount.
