European share prices are higher in midday trading Tuesday.
London's Financial Times index is up 56 points at 4,858.
The CAC-40 in Paris is 15 points lower at 3,954, and the DAX index in Frankfurt is up 16 points at 4,240. The S&P futures contract is down about two points, indicating a slightly lower opening for U.S. stocks.
Japanese markets are closed most of this week for a national holiday. Trading will resume on Friday.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index closed down 15 points at 13,894.
The price of gold in London is $429.20 an ounce, down $6.50 from late Friday -- the last day of trading before Monday's holiday.
The dollar in London is mixed against other major currencies.
