A top Irish folk singer has announced plans to release a new single for the 60th birthday of detained Burmese democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi.
Top-selling performer Damien Rice, joined by fellow musician Lisa Hannigan, will release the song titled "Unplayed Piano" in June. They say all proceeds from the single will benefit the U.S. Campaign for Burma and Burma Campaign UK.
Their plan is part of a global campaign to highlight the contributions of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning activist and to protest her continued house arrest in Burma.
Mr. Rice says he wrote the single for Aung San Suu Kyi after he visited Burma in 2004. He says he has also planned a European tour to highlight the campaign for Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi.
