Al-Qaida in Iraq says its leader, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, has been injured, and the group called on Muslims to pray for his recovery.
The message appeared Tuesday on the militant group's website, but its authenticity could not be immediately verified.
A U.S. military spokesman in Baghdad said he had no information on the website posting.
The statement did not say where or when Iraq's most wanted terrorist was wounded, but earlier this month there were reports that Zarqawi was injured and had briefly been sighted at a hospital in the western city of Ramadi.
Meanwhile, a car bomb explosion in central Baghdad killed two civilians. And the U.S. military says eight of its troops have been killed in bomb blasts and attacks since Monday.
