Asian stock markets closed mostly higher today-Monday, with the key market in Tokyo slipping slightly.
Tokyo's Nikkei index lost a fraction 1% 29 points, to close at 11,271. The Nikkei rose slightly Friday.
Hong Kong's key index, the Hang Seng, gained a fraction of 1% 42 points, to finish at 13,861. The Hang Seng climbed slightly Friday.
Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Bangkok, Bombay, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Shanghai, Sydney, Singapore and Taipei. Markets in Wellington and Seoul were closed for holidays.
The U.S. dollar was quoted at 107.41 yen in Tokyo, down 0.47 yen from late Friday in Tokyo, and below its late Friday New York level of 107.97 yen.
The price of gold in Hong Kong rose one dollar and 90 cents to close at 425 dollars and five cents an ounce.
