Cambodian police say they have freed dozens of students held hostage by gunmen at a school in the northwestern part of the country. But they say a Canadian child was killed by the hostage-takers.
Police officials say security forces stormed the International School in the town of Siem Reap, arresting four gunmen and ending an hours-long standoff.
Witnesses say several shots were heard from inside the school compound. It was not immediately clear who fired the shots.
Earlier, gunmen had seized about 40 students, demanding money, cars and weapons.
Siem Reap is home to a large expatriate population, with many working in relief aid and tourism.
