World leaders are still reacting to Friday's Iranian election, as the country's President-elect Mahmoud Ahmadinejad vows a policy of what he calls peace and moderation.
King Abdullah of Jordan and King Fahd of Saudi Arabia sent telegrams of congratulations to Mr. Ahmadinejad, who defeated the more moderate former President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani on Friday.
However, Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said the election showed the need for what he termed a united and stern international position on Iran's nuclear program.
Israel and the United States have accused Iran of using its uranium enrichment program to develop nuclear weapons -- an allegation Tehran denies.
Mr. Ahmadinejad said his government will continue talks with the European Union on Iran's nuclear program. He linked the success of the talks to the West recognizing Iran's right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
