29 June 05: Asian Stock Prices Close Mostly Lower


Asian stock markets closed mostly lower today-Wednesday, but Tokyo ended at an 11-week high.

Tokyo's Nikkei index gained 64 points to finish at 11,577. On Tuesday the Nikkei gained 100 points.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index lost 10 points to end at 14,277. The Hang Seng rose 111 points on Tuesday.

In the region's other big market, Singapore, the Straits Times index gained five points to close at 2,202.

Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Bangkok, Bombay, Seoul and Wellington. Markets were lower in Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Singapore, Sydney and Taipei.

In late afternoon Tokyo currency trading, the dollar was selling at 110.34 yen, up 0.56 yen from the same time Tuesday.

In Hong Kong, the price of gold fell two dollars and 50 cents an ounce to close at 435 dollars and five cents an ounce.
