Officials in Burma say at least eight miners are dead and 12 others are missing after a collapse at a gem mine in northeast Burma.
The accident occurred July 3rd in the Shan state town of Mongshu. An official with Burma's ministry of mines says the dead miners include four men and four women. Seven people were injured.
Torrential rains in Shan state caused a landslide at the Mongshu mines, destroying several buildings as well as triggering the collapse of the gem mine.
Gems are one of Burma's major revenue-earning products. Many are mined in the Mongshu area.
