French President Jacques Chirac has warned that no country in the world is safe from terror.
In a television interview marking Bastille Day celebrations, Mr. Chirac said France has taken all measures it can to prevent attacks, but that terrorists could strike anywhere.
Mr. Chirac also said he did not regret calling a referendum on the European Union constitution, and said the French people, in rejecting the document, expressed their concern over globalization.
The interview was delayed by 20 minutes to allow the French leader and visiting Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to observe two minutes of silence in respect for the victims of last week's terrorist bombings in London.
Bastille Day commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, which marked the beginning of the French Revolution.
