Stocks had a mixed opening Tuesday on U.S. markets. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was off seven points in early trading at 10,590.
The S & P 500 gained one point at 1230, while the NASDAQ also moved up just one point to hit 2168.
European share prices were also mixed in their afternoon trading.
London's Financial Times index was down three-tenths of a percent, the CAC-40 in Paris gained one tenth, while and the DAX index in Frankfurt was off two-tenths of a percent. Earlier in Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index lost 25 points to finish at 11,738.
The Hang Seng in Hong Kong closed at 14,770, down 24 points.
The price of gold is down more than two dollars in New York, trading at $423.50 cents an ounce.
In currency trading, the U.S. dollar fell against the yen but gained slightly against the euro in New York.
