Positive news about U.S. manufacturing and some strong profit reports boosted U.S. stocks Wednesday morning.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average moved up 31 points in early trading to hit 10,610.
The S & P 500 rose two points to reach 1233, while the NASDAQ gained one point at 2177.
European share prices are higher in midday trading. London's Financial Times index, the CAC-40 in Paris, and the DAX index in Frankfurt all rose two-tenths of a percent or more.
Earlier in Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index gained 97 points to finish at 11,835.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose 32 points to end the day at 14,802.
The price of gold is up 50 cents, trading at $424.00 an ounce in New York. The dollar is down against the yen and the euro in New York.
