The White House has welcomed Iraq's draft constitution as another step forward in its democratic process.
It says the three day delay will give Iraqis time to reach a consensus and noted that democracy is a difficult and often slow process. The White House statement added that Americans look forward to seeing Iraq's constitutional draft finalized Thursday.
Earlier Monday, Mr. Bush said Iraqis were defying terrorists by working on a democratic constitution. He made the remark during a speech Monday in the western U.S. state of Utah aimed at boosting support for the war in Iraq.
The president interrupted his vacation at his ranch in Crawford, Texas for a cross-country trip this week to deliver two speeches on the Iraq war and the war on terrorism. Anti-war activists protested outside his speech.
