Burma has signed a deal with China to buy 46-million dollars of equipment to build what would be the country's largest hydroelectric plant.
The plant would be built on the Myitnge River, south of the city of Mandalay.
Official Burmese newspapers say the government has also signed a separate 80-million dollar deal with China for machinery to increase the capacity of an existing plant on Paunglaung Creek.
Burma must rely on China for imports of heavy machinery because of U.S. and European embargoes imposed on the Burmese military government.
