President Bush has sent greetings to Muslims in the United States and around the world on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, which celebrates the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
In a statement issued today, Mr. Bush said the feast marks the end of the holiest month of the Muslim year -- which is a time of prayer, reflection and fasting.
He noted that during Eid al-Fitr many Muslims demonstrate their compassion by reaching out to the less fortunate. Mr. Bush said this year, many American Muslims have helped victims of the hurricanes in the southern United States and of the earthquake in South Asia.
Eid al-Fitr began Thursday in much of the Islamic world, and today for the rest of the world's more than one billion Muslims.
