Norway has condemned Burma's military rulers for extending the house arrest of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi and demanded her immediate release.
In a statement released Thursday, Norwegian foreign affairs minister Jonas Gahr Store said the release of Aung San Suu Kyi would be an important step towards reconciliation and democratic development in Burma.
Mr. Store added, "It is deplorable that Aung San Suu Kyi and her party, National League for Democracy, will not be included when the constitutional process resumes."
Burma's military junta announced Monday that Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been detained for 10 of the past 16 years, would be held for another six months.
