Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra says he has proposed to Burmese leaders that Thailand is ready to host a second international meeting on Burma.
In his weekly radio address Saturday, Mr. Thaksin said he made the offer on the sidelines of the 11th ASEAN summit held in Malaysia earlier this month.
The prime minister said he told Burmese officials that Thailand is prepared to host the so-called Bangkok Process, aimed at facilitating national reconciliation in Burma, if Rangoon wishes.
Mr. Thaksin said Burma's improved relations with foreign countries would enable those nations to gain more understanding of the military-ruled country.
The first international meeting of the Bangkok Process was held in the Thai capital in December of 2003.
